Grand Traverse Audubon Club members enjoy birding together, meeting for nature-oriented programs or field trips, and participating in service projects related to the environment. We are concerned about the preservation of habitat for wildlife and natural areas for the enjoyment of all residents. We are a chapter of the Michigan Audubon Society.
Welcome! Our meetings are usually the 4th Thursday of the month at the Boardman River Nature Center on Cass Road. 7:00 p.m.

August 15 - Our annual Potluck Breakfast and Birding will have a new location this year. We will be meeting at the Boardman River Nature Center at 8:00 a.m. This is on Cass, about one mile and a half south of Airport Road, just where the railroad track crosses the road. If the weather is nice, we will be able to eat outside. There are picnic tables in a covered pavilion right adjacent to the nature center. We will be able to eat inside if necessary, so come no matter what the weather. Bring a dish to share and your own table service. With so many members, we are bound to have a variety of dishes, so bring your favorite breakfast item. Coffee and tea will be provided. After breakfast, we will be birding on the trails around the nature center. Bring your binoculars and a scope, if you have one, for viewing the pond from the observation platform.
If you would like to canoe or kayak the Boardman River after the breakfast and birding, contact John Mesch, 946-3624.
Bird Baths
A bird bath is a great way to attract birds which may not come to your feeder. All birds need water and love to bathe in an inviting bird bath. Change the water when needed and clean out the bath with a scrub brush. This will need to be done more often if you do not have a running water source for the bath. Consider putting in a mister or dripper which you can purchase at a bird specialty store, or try making one yourself. Not only will the bath be cleaner, but the dripping water will attract even more birds. A small pond in your backyard is another great addition to your landscaping and you will be rewarded when a beautiful blue Indigo Bunting comes to bathe. Like bird feeders, a bird bath is also a perfect place to photograph birds.
