January 28, 2010

Call to order by President Ed Moehle at 7:05p.m. With approximately 30 people present.
Minutes:
The minutes of December 17, 2009 meeting were read by Karen Crane. There were no corrections.
Treasurer's Report:
The treasurer's report was read by John Mesch, who reported a total of $2,663.26 in the general fund. John M. presented list of disbursements from the Walter Hastings Environmental Education Fund to go towards 5 separate programs for 2009-2010.

TART trail (for western expansion program)...$1000.00

Whitefish Point Bird Observatory....................$ 200.00

Boardman River Nature Center........................$ 200.00

Grass River Natural Area (Antrim Cnty).........$ 100.00

Wings of Wonder (R Lessard in Empire).........$ 100.00

Balance of this fund as of 1/28/10 = $1421.83

Motion to accept this budget was made by Lenard and a second to this motion was made by Carolyn.
Motion was passed to accept this budget.
Ed M. gave brief history of the Walter Hastings Environmental Fund.
Ed then explained the orange program guide - what is in it.
Tom Ford informed those present that the 2010 trifold brochures listing the GTAC activities for the year 2010 should be back from the printers soon.
Ed M. let those present know that the program schedule for 2010 is on the GTAC website.
Holly V. informed those present that a snowy owl has been sighted on US 31 at Rt 633. :)
Barb G. explained and invited all present to join a group going up to the Soo on an outing the week end of Feb 13-14, 2010.

Brian Allen presented a program entitled BIRDS OF PERU.
He shared many photo's and facts involving his personal trip to that country in 2009.
Ed Moehle adjourned meeting at 8:43p.m.

February 25, 2010

Meeting was called to Order by acting President, Tom Ford at 7:04p.m.
Minutes were read and approved as read.
A brief treasures report was read.
New tri-folds were distributed.
Tom Ford reported on the state of readiness for the beginning birders workshop.
Leonard Graf reported on a successful Sault Saite Marie trip with relatively mild temperatures and a few winter finches.
After a short break more than 30 members and guests enjoyed a program and Ken Gregory's 2008 trip to Madagascar.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:00p.m.


March 25, 2010

Meeting was called to order at 7:03p.m. By President Ed Moehle.
Minutes
The minutes of the February 25, 2010 meeting were read by Karen Crane. There were no corrections.
Treasurer's Report:
The treasurer's report was read by John Mesch.
John reported that the General Fund contains: $3,059.63 and that the Walter Hastings Fund contains: $1,421.83. John gave those present, stats on the GTAC membership; 42 family memberships, 40 individual memberships, & 2 student memberships. John also shared that the GTAC has received several thank-you notes from various recipients of this years W. H. E. E. F.

Central Grade School - May 21-22 ??
Ed Moehle reviewed the upcoming April/May field trips.

Presentation: After a short break members and guests enjoyed a very enlighteningpresentation on “Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro” presented by Thomas and Karen Mertaugh.

April 22, 2010

Meeting was called to order at 7:05p.m. By President Ed Moehle.
Minutes
The minutes from the March 25, 2010 meeting where read by Karen Crane. There was a correction – clarified by John Mesch.
Treasurer's Report:
The treasure's report was presented by John Mesch.
General Fund = $3,134.03
Walter Hastings Fund = $1,421.83

General Information was then discussed, prior to the presentation:
Shirley Mesch discussed the news letter. She stated that she hopes to have it printed by June, and therefore asked that information anyone wants in the news letter, please be passed on to her by the end of May.
A reminder: of the GTAC volunteer clean up at Sleeping Bears Dunes 2 days from now – April 24.
Other upcoming events discussed – the Tawas Bird Festival field trip scheduled for May 14 -16. Those present at this meeting were reminded that the annual Michigan Audubon Conference was being held during this festival at the same locale.

Tom Ford introduced the speaker for this evening, Steven Smiley.
Mr. Smiley's presentation was on the topic of “Wind Power”.
After the presentation there were several questions addressed to Mr.Smiley.
