Adopt-a-Highway

Since 1995, our club has been responsible for a two mile stretch of Highway M-109. This section starts at M-22 (one mile north of Empire) to County Road 616, at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. We have picked up litter along this roadside three times a year. Ken Beerthuis has been the chairman of this project, and many of our club members have worked on this. Those helping included, John & Shirley Mesch, John & Molly McCombs, Jim & Mary Ellen Thero, Paula Leinbach, Bob Carstens, Ken & Kay Beerthuis, Ann Martin, Ed Moehle, Marlys Bandy, Barbara Vockel, Leonard & Barb Graf.

Adopt-a-Trail

After finishing our highway pickup, we go to check on and pick up litter from the trail the club built in 1993, The Duneside Trail. This trail starts at the dune climb area and goes into the woods. It is handicapped accessible. We usually find very little litter, but blow leaves off in the spring and sweep the board interpretive stations and the deck.
